SCOUT NOTES

(By "Kamahi.")

No. 19/38. Patrol Leaders Please Note! Plans are now under way for your training week-end under canvas for June 3rd, 4th and sth. You will receive full particulars within the next few days. The camp promises to be something worth attending, and every Patrol Leader worth his stripes should attend. So "swat up" your camping and "he prepared" for a truly splendid weekend. Next district camp-fire is at St. Augustine Group's Hall, Petone (near McKenzie's baths), on this Saturday, 27th inst. It commences shortly after 7 p.m. Don't forget you are expected to wear some sort of camp-fire costume, and bring some "eats" for supper. Any stunts, items, or suggestions for songs will ibe gladly received. On the same | night, Ist Lower Hutt Rovers are ! holding one of their popular dances ' in their Den. They invite all ScoutI ers to come and bring their part- | ners. Uniform to be worn by the men-folk, please. Have you sent in your Jamboree application form yet? If not, you should do so at once. Don't be one of the chaps who can't be accommodated for lack of space. It's up to you! . The school holidays just ended ! proved most interesting for some members of the "Wi Tako" Troop. I They formed into a "gang,", and, armed with a letter of introduction from their local Scouter, approached . local factories for permission to be . shown through. They saw six factories during the holidays, and were most courteously treated in every j case. A Patrol Leader was put in I charge, and the conduct of the party , was excellent. For a change, they organised a Rugby match, in which one side proved too strong for the other. It seems to have been a holiday very well spent, judging by the written reports received. "Motor Cases Everywhere—and not a Scout in sight!" Perhaps not entirely correct, but nearly so. You may have been ,one of the conscientious fellows who actually did turn out during the holidays to give a balul —in that cast I owe you an apology. The fact remains, how- : ever, that very few fellows remembered the job waiting to be done. Quite a number of us went up last ' Saturday afternoon, and I understand there was a working party of Scouts in the morning as well. Can you do something about it? That's a matter I'll have to leave to you. The combined Catholic Groups of our district gathered at the Petone

Church on the 4th instant to hear Mass and receive Holy Communion. About 70 Cubs, Scouts and Scouters attended, Rev. Father Topman speaking on the theme, "Fear God, honour the King." "Aorangi" was present in the capacity of Country Commissioner, and joined the company ' at an excellent breakfast provided by the ladies of St, Aloyius' Group Committee. The rest of the day was enjoyably spent at the Hutt Park, plenty of time heing available for the boys to get to know one another. I -have to thank "Matangi," Scouter of St. Joseph's, Upper Hutt, for this report. —"KAMAHI," , ' Dist. Publicity Scouter.
