LOWER HUTT TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD

At the monthly meeting Mrs. C. E. Moran presided over a large gathering, and extended a welcome to new members and to Mrs. Breeclia, member of the Dannevirke Guild. Business was dealt with, and Mrs. Owen, a guild member, was thanked l'or her effort in raising £4/10/single handed to add to the guild's funds for yie Women's Organisations' queen. A cup and saucer set donated by Mrs. Young also raised a sum ol' money for this worthy object. Mrs. Elsio Freeman, secretary of the magazine "Woman To-Day," was announced as the speaker for the June meeting. A children's choir, under the able leadership of Mrs. ,F. Tunley (convener of the guild's musical circle), artistically rendered a number of delightful songs, "Husheen," "Convent Bells," "Perfect Day," and Brahm's "Lullaby." Miss Helen Mac Donald, the new physical director of the Y.W.C.A., gave an instructive talk on physical culture, stressing the fact that older women, in taking physical exercises, | should do so only when the exercises proved relaxing, and a keen sense of enjoyment followed the classes. Long country walks were one of the best forms of exercises for mature women, but where women could not do this, modern conditions made it necessary to have recourse to some form of artificial exercise to keep fit. The aim of the instructress of such classes — which should bu taken by a woman with a thorough knowledge of anatomy and psychology—should be, not the development but the toning up of muscles. At the conclusion of the talk members of the guild decided to form a "Keep Fit" class and to incorporate table tennis with this class. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the New Zealand Anthem.
