Electric Power Board

A meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board 1 was held on Thursday. There were present the chairman, Mr. A. W,' .Press, and Messrs.. L. Stewart, R. W. Bothamley,, P. Dowse, R. G. Stephens, P. Robinson, C. Dowland, A. Walker and J. Maher. An apology for absence was received from Mr. Gr. London, and Mr. Blackly who was away on board business. - The engineer and general manager, Mr. E. P. Hollands reported for the month as follows: A comparison of power sales from April 1 to August 31, 1938 with figures for same period last year given in parentheses is as follows: —Availability rate £28700/7/7 (£29,014/3/4); commercial lighting £7362/12/7 (£(>l43/18/7); water heating £(io(>(>/0/l (£5107/3/10); power £12,998/3/5 (£12,151/11/1); public lighting £1310/17/8 (£l2Bl/17 3); discounts £4742/12/!) (£4441/13/2). Totals £51,(595/8/7 (£50,157/0/11). During the month 95 new installations were connected to the Board's reticulation, with a further 89 additions to existing installations. The totals as per records to the 31st August, .1938, are as follows: —Number of installations ! 13,925. Number of ranges installed, 2,817. Num'ber of water heaters connected, 2,854. Connected load in K.W. 61,924. The combined peak registered during the month under review was 9192 K.V.A. Units purchased for August 3,909,200, an increase of 833,100 units over the same period last year. Cooking Demonstrations have been successfully held from the sth to 9th inclusive under arrangements with the Demonstrator of the Electric Supply Authorities Association.
