At the ski sports of the Tramping Clubs of the Wellington district held at Kiine llut ou the top of the Taruruas recently, Miss Edna (Smith of Waterloo Road, won the women's sladoin. Mesdames Back and J. Stonehouse were hostesses at a pleasant bridge afternoon at the Hutt C'roquet Club pavilion. The prize-winners were Mesdames Brooks ami J. Wood. Those present were Mesdames Barker, Coriett, Warburton, Ching, Howe, Brooks, Wobley. Mount, Kelly, Hendry, Wood, Hawthorne and Nicliolls. ills. Charlesworth presided over ti large attendance of members at the monthly meeting of ilie Lower Hutt brunch ol' the Residential Nursery lielil at the home of Airs B. S. Knox, Totara Crescent. Mrs i'assmore, who has been absent because of ill-health, was welcomed baick, and three new honorary j members joined. Miss Stuart-Eorbes and Miss Gwen •Stuart-Forbes, Alionby Street, returned last week from a trip to England. They witnessed the Coronation ceremonies, and were present at u garden party al Buckingham Palace. .Mrs. Norman Allen, Dunediu, is the guest ot her sister, Mrs R. B. Barton, Hinau Street. A. shop day will be held at the entr:..., e to Xing George Theatre 011 Friday next on behalf of the Lower Hutt Plunket Society. Contributions of cakes, sweets, jams, vegetables, etc., will be gratefully accepted by any member of the committee. The monthly meeting of the Knox bran:-h of the I'.W.M.IL, was held on Thursday last. The speaker for the atternooiL was Mrs Bandinet of Welling ton who spoke on her experiences when a deaconess. This work is of great value to the ministers of city churches as it enables them to find out the needs of .many that otherwise they could not hope to know. Many humorous and many pathetic incidents in the life of a deaconess were spoken of by the speaker' in a most interesting manner.
