I CORRESPONDENCE.

SUNDAY BAND CONCERTS. Sir, —"Interested" by his letter in connection with band programmes on Sunday afternoons, published in a recent iseuc, has raised a subject that merits same further attention. In the first place I wish to state that in the summer of 11*32, on a particularly line Sunday afternoon, the Municipal Silver Band gave a concert of selected music in Riddiford Park. The reason for this was exactly that whieh "Interested" seems to have used when he penned his letter, i.e, that sunny days are usually associated with bright openair programmes by a brass band. Now, tailing' into consideration the ideal weather conditions on the day 01 which 1 am writing members of the band naturally anticipated a reasonably large attendance of the public, out to ail appearances the only interested objects within liearing distance were several blackbirds perched conlidently on a nearby fence. Such amazing public apathy was of course instrumental in tue band unanimously condemning Sunday recitals as a complete waste of time. However, this summer " Interested V suggestion may again be given a trial. Does he realize though, the entire lack of facilities in our reserves for a band concert? Almost every town has its rotunda but not so Lower Hutt. Yet, given the necessary public support— which of course is essential —the band would be pleased to play on occasional Sundays. At present Friday evening seems most suitable, and already the members have commenced these concerts. Lack of suitable illumination makes it very difficult sometimes and the band is almost forced to conline its activities to one or two spots that afford the best light. I was not aware that the local Salvation Army had a band at present and I think that "Interested" will be unable to verify this as being a fact. —1 am etc., G. F. KAI'E, Hon. Sec. Lower Hutt, Municipal Silver Baud. '
