BELMONT PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION.

The us,ual monthly meeting of th« Behnont Progressive Association was held recently in the local school-roojn, Mr. Tihvin 'being elected a's ,chairmaii .for the year. A deputation had waited upon the Un'emjpioyme'nt Board to see if the .Western H'utt 'Road could be put* into a reasonable state o»f repair. There are difficulties in the way at present, but at a later date it is hoped to sec these surmounted. Complains were received from residents being compelled to gGt off the foottpath between Own Street and Belmont Station, because cyclists were riding upon it. No resident desires to see cyclists using the rou^h road when a smooth part is available, but pedefcifcrians have the prior right to Kse it. In future it is hoped that when the cyclists sec a pedestrian using the path they will Uao their rightful place —the road. To simplify the distribution df relief, in necessitous ! dases, a suggestion was made, that a lo.cal representative be appointed by the Lower Hntt Belief Committee "who could deal with the need's-of the people' residing in Belmont. ■A resolution was.passed that the Association give support to the ; Ulppcr Hutt Council and v unite w.ithr them in their effo-rtfe to secure .a long deferred redaction in. the workers' fares.
