HUTT DISTRICT BURNS CLUB

I The first anniversary of the Hutt ' District Burns Club was celebrated 1 at a supper which was held in the Moera Community - Hall. The president; Mr &. Murray, occupied the ' chair, and the vice-president*, 1 Messrs W. Nash and J. M. Carlson I were also present. ! After over 125 members of th« | club were seated at the table, the 1 Scotch dumpling was duly honoured by being carried in splendid style by Mr G. Logic, escorted by Major McLennan, to the tune of the bagpipes and placed upon tie table amidst, much applause. Mr Watson gave the toast to the- dumpling of which he delivered upon the lines of Burns's address to the haggis and in the real Ayrshire doric with much humour to the delight of all present. The supper was arranged by the following lady members of the social committee:—Mesdames Murray, Logic, McAughtre, Pagei and Finlay to whom much praise was given for their generous hospitality. During the evening several toasts were honoured and a delightful musical programme provided The chairman spoke upon the formation of the club with 20 members, giving credit to the committees, both ladies and gentlemen, for their achievement. (The roll now stands at 125 members). He pointed out that Burns Club was not confined to any sect, creed, or nationality and reminded his hearers that upon the platform that night was a display of five emblems', namely, the Scotch Thistle (the emblem of Scotland); the Rose of England, the Shamrock of Ireland, the Leek of Wales, and last, but not least, the beautiful fern of New Zealand—for "man to man the world o'er shall Brithers be for a' that" Mr Nash made reference to the great progress made by the club and wished it every success. The evening concluded with dancing to the music of Mr McGuchan's orchestra, and the singing of Auld Lang Syne."
