"MURDER ON THE SECOND

FLOOR."

I Entertainment of outstanding interest and merit -will (be given in the King George Theatre on Wednesday and Thursday, sth and 6th July when The Uarrick -Players stage Frank Vosper's famous mystery drama "Murder on the Second Floor." As it is same years since a three-act play has Obeen staged in the theatre it is expected that the theatre-going -pub lie will flo'cik to see what will undoubtedly ibe an outstanding event in the world of entertainment. The Garriok Players were incorporated as Lower Hutt'<s repertory society a little over a year ago, and have achieved a success as meteoric as that of the New Zealand Legion. Fourteen months ago the Hutt Valley was without a 'society of this tyjpe. Several enthusiasts, now ineinibera of the society, planned a campaign of recruiting with the result 'that a meeting wris called and a strong committee elected. Play reading's were comineirced and in due course the (first public performance, a group o±" one-act plays, was staged in St. James's Hall. This met with universal ■approbation, whilst the newspaper 'critics in Ltfwer Hutt and; Wellington were most lavish in their praise of the production. A second sori'esi of one-act •play's was staged in the same hall some onouths later for a two night season. Owing to the, Mature oi 'the setting's for these plays tho company was seriously handicapped >on the -small stage. The scenery for this was magnificent .but the cramped quarters hindered the s'tago manager and his staff with the result that the steene-chang-ing 'was .once or twice "a trifle slow. . It was therefore apiparent that the Society must look" for more ;coniin, odi.ous quarters for its (public (productions. The King Geoge Theatre inianagement was approached with a view to arranging for a production in 'tttat theatre. Tho excellent reputation of the society -stood it in good 'stead and "Murder on the (Second 'Floor" was booked. . The cast includes several actors who have achieved championship honours in the Wellington iCbmpetition-s. The iprodueer, Miss G. Helen Gardner, /needs no introduction itto Hut/t .audiences, for her reputation for artistic /productions is unequalled. The staging of the production will "be mo-sit (thorough. Over 2000 feet of tiiniber iias been ibu'iit into jthe scenery which has 'been constructed on professional lines. The lighting 'will tbe a feature of the performance. . The comforts of the audience will be adequately entered for as the theatre will 'be heated. In order to bring 'the .entertainment within the reach of all only adVancer on the usual tpicture <pnices of 1/6 and^l/- will ibe a "booking tfee of 6d. Tjhe /plan, which is at the rwillows, is filling at this early d'flkte, •so that it will 'b.e in the interests of rpatrons to 'book their seats.
