ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS AT TRINITY CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH

Ob Sunday^ November 2nd> and on the Tuesday following, the anniversary celebrations of the Tiinity Congregational Sunday School took place and so inspiring and successful. did they prove, that it was decided to continue the musical services on t&e following | Sunday (November 9th). The church was crowded at all the Sunday services and numbers had to be turned away. The singing of the children represented six weeks of hard work and this conscientious preparation resulted in an excellent performance ;at the anniversary. The credit-for the success of the musical portion of the services- was very largely due to the efforts of Miss E. Stowers and Mr. Charles Leyland, conductors, respectively, of the choir and orchestra. The members of the latter, not all of whom were members.of the church, were Ikfiss E. Stpwers, at the piano, Miss Langtry, saxophone, Miss Meldram, and Messrs H. Vann, N. Robertson, D. Harding, H. Wallace, violins; Mr. R. Crowther, banjo; Messrs Parker and Langtry, erarionets; and Mr A. Collins, cornet. The only service at which there was an address was in the afternoon, w2xen Mr. J. T. Crozier spoke on 'Lessons From*An Old Book.' The morning and evening services were presided over by the Rev. R. T. H. Weaxne, pastOT of tfie church. At the services on ', the Sunday, lessons were read by Malbel Heard, Alice Ives> William Smith, and Marjorie Whittaker, and Biblical passages recited by Lehpra Mcßeth, Joyce Stowers, Maibel Heard, Mary Holding, Betty Holding, and. Joy jSmitt. Beryl Vann recited ":The Wight Christ Died,'' Len ■ Peddigrew;'•'. Christ Is All," Betty Smith "The Nuxse's Story, '' ' {Hazel Hughes, '' Mary's Promise," Petty EHiott, "The Beautiful Land of Nod/ Dinah Elliott "The Man Who Killed the Daisies,'' Barbara MeLeod, "The Sail Boat's Secrets," and Ronald Woods, "In the Heart of the. Seed." The s'olists for the day were Miss M. Carrick, who sang "Land of Hope and Glory, '{ the children joining in the chorus; Miss B. Scott, w&o sang ***God 's Messenger; Miss A. Milward, "O Love Divine," Miss P. Jefferies, " Grant TJs Thy Peace,'' and Jim Harding sang a hymn, the other children joining in the chorus. In the evening Miss Scott .also sang a solo, the children singing the chorus. The orchestra also rendered two hymns, one of which was "Pierce Raged the Tempsstl" .;■■■' •

On Tivesday night the school-room

was the scene of a tea, followed by the presentation of prizes by Mrs. Wearne, .■who* was the recipient of a charming bouquet from the Sunday-school teachers. In addition to the presentation of prizes, the secretary of the Sunday school read the report of the year's work svnd .musical and elocutionary items again added to the enjoyment of the evening. During the evening Miss G. Meldravm, who has been in charge of tiro ■■kindergarten department, but ■who had to resign that position on account of ill-health, was presented by Mr. Wea'rne with a gold wristlet watcth^ in recognition of her long and faithful service in the Sunday school, and Mr. Wearne, in making the presentation, said how. deeply he and her fellow-workei-s regretted the cause of her resignation. ■ . . The annual i;eportr presented by the secretary, Mt. George Martin showed a roll numiber of 172 children, 79 prim- ' a.ry, 82. senior and 11 teachers, an increae of 17 over last year.
