HUTT VALLEY SWIMMING CLUB,

ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual general meeting of the Hutt Valley Swimming iClub was theld at the Council Chambers on Wednesday, October Sth, Mr. H. P. Kidson presiding-, and there, was an attendance of 37 members. The following annual report which was submitted, to the meeting iw&s adopted:— . 'Carnivals.—-During the season we held three carnivals but o-fving to Iwtd weather conditions- and other attrac-: ■tions the carnivals were' not patronised as well'as we hoped for. From a sporting point" of vicrw the events were keenly contested and created greiat interest.; "We axe again fortunate in having com.-' petitors from Wellington, Masterton/ and Auckland. . Schools Competition.—During t<he sea son the club held tie relay competitions betiween the schools in the Hutt Valley. In these competitions the- Eastern Hutt •School, won "both the Blakiston Cup and thiv Baldwin Memorial Shield. . The fehib inaugurated a Schools Sports Meet ing open to .all schools in the Hutt Valley. Tthis meeting was a huge st^ccesa. The Points trophy was won iby the Eastern Hutt School. To the teachers and pupils of this school we offer our congratulations. We would like to thank the, teachers- of the various schools In the district for the interest they take in fostering the art of swimming amongst the children. Our thanks tiro also due to Messrs Warnes and :Biia£son for medals donated for com- ' petition amongst the school children; also to Mr. jJaraiesdn for. the offer of a cup from his firm for school competition. '■ Donations—-The chub is deeply indeibt ed to those gentlemen who donated so handsomely to the club's funds. j " Championships.—The Cru!b senlt Mis& M. House and. B. Gelatte,' to the National Championships at GhreymoiiitSi. Both competitors performed with I credit although they -were not successj'ful in winning a title. '■■- Memlbers of this club were prominent in the Wellington- Centre's Championships. jSF. Dowsett woa the 50 yards, iB. Getatte won- all the intermediate boys', P. Price the intermediate girls', M. House, the Junior girlsj—B: Henderson the Junior boys arid B. Tuppen the championship dive. In addition to these, inemfbefs of this cluib were most suecessfwl in intercluib events conducted by the various clubs affiliated to the Wellington Centre. Miss Horse also visited Feilding by special invitation, to take part in a carnival there.

Congratulations to the High. iSchool on winning the Maxwell Cup and the High School girls for the good performance they put up in the: girls'race for tie Maxwell trophy*. Also to tliose who won the club competitions competed for. at the evening meetings. A special word of thanks is due to the ladies' committee for the work performed by them at carnivals. During the season the Ciu/b held a Sail and presentation of trophies. From a social point of view it was a great success. ; In conclusion we would like to thank those persons who acted as officials at the various carnivals. We look forward to a good season during tihe coming year. The balance sheet shows the club ""to ]be in a good financial position. * The.fallowing offiee'rs were elected:— President, Sir A. F. Girling, George, Harris and McKay. A notice of motion moved 'by Mr. 'Edwards, "that the annual subscription be fixed at the annt&l geneial ■nieeting" was lost. It was decided to again approach the

Boroug>h. Council with a view to having the water in the Riddiford Baths heated.

The opening date was left in the hands of the committee to arrange.
