During the fire brigade function last week when a presentation was made to Superintendent T. W. Slinri, Cr. A; McBain . implying to the toast of the BoroKfh Council, referred to the phenomenally rapid growth of Lower Hutt. borough. He paid a tribute to Mr. W. T. Strand, the last mayor, for having the vi^bn to see the development and the imagination," foresight, and energy to keep pace with it. To him and his ■council was due the fact that Lower Hutt had reserves and amenities such as few boroughs of the same size in the world possessed. The work donejn Eiddiford Park was a great achievement. The borough, too, was fortunate m the number of its public-spirited citizens and its officers who were able to carry out the plans that Mr. Strand 'had the courage to outline. Of tre present mayor, Sir Alexander Roberts, Mr. Mcßain said that if he was more cautious than Mr. Strand, he yet sow to it that Lower Hutt maintained its present proud position and what was done, was done well.
