N.Z. ALPINE AND ROCK GARDEN SOCIETY.
An executive meeting of tiic N.Z. Alpine and Rock Garden, Society "was held last week. In the aibsenee- of the President, Mr. G. P. Anderson occupied the chair.
A letter was received from the secretary of the HaveLoek North Bock Garden Society asking if this society would be permitted to affiliate with the N.Z. .Society. Considerable . discussion ensued and it was decided to write.for further partieulaxs and re-consider the niatter at a later meeting.
The Director reported on negotiations he had -had with the Massey Memorial Committee at: Pomt Halswell with regard to tlio Society xmdettaMng the supply of plants; and formation of a rock garden on the site. The Director explained that he had made certain offers to the cdmmittee^but was unaible
to reach any finality. It was agreed that the Director and two members of the Executive should wait on tSte officer in charge of- the: Internal, Affairs Department' and "endeavour to make definite ; ajTangements. <
. ' A letter was received from the Director of Agri'cultiuie Tanganyika Tei-ri-tbry,- East Africa^ asking for seeds of the N.Z. Christmas Tree, VPohutukaiwa, and offering to send other seeds from his country in : exchange; ;A supply of seeds was authorised. .:. '
It w«as also, reported that a supply of seeds had ibeen foxivviarded to Port-
land, Oreg-on^
It was decided to hold an .■'' Arbor Day" at the Society's Bockeries in Biddiford Grardens on Saturday after-
■noon next wihen members and all interested will be invited to assist in planting, and general talks on rock gardening will be held
The offer of Mr. J. G. Hilyar to donate a prize of not less than one guinea for the best collection of native flora supplied (pressed) by children, was accepted with thanks. Other prizes will probably be added.
The director reported that he had circiiiarised every horticultural society
in New Zealand (130) with the Society's propaganda in order to bring under their notice tixo valuable work of the N.Z. Alpine and Bock Garden Society.
