HUTT BOWLING AND TENNIS CLUB

OPENING- OF SEASON. A very successful opening of the

1930-31 bowling and tennis season took place on the Butt Bowling, Tennis and Club's grounds-on Saturdiay afternoon. The President, Mr. Barton Ginger, who was accompanied by his mother, expressed regret that force of. circumstances had prevented Mr. O. S. Watkins from accepting t&e position of president, bjit he would do his best to iill the position to the best of his ability and made an appeal to trie members to assist him to make the season a successful one. He had ben told that he would have to produce a Mrs. Ginger by the opening day and he submitted that he had done so when ho produced the' best girl, in the world—his mother. Mr. Ginger extended a cordial welcome to the visitors and invited any who had not already done so, to become members of the club. He 'niado reference to the death of Mr. E. P. Rish worth and Ml*. Alan Macaslrill, both past president of the club; also to t-hat of Mr. Broad, a respected member of the chilj who had passed away last week. On behalf of hisi mother and himself the president ex- | pressed his gratitude to t-lie ladies of the Croquet Club who had undertaken I th'O. management; of the afternoon tea for the afternoon. He, congratulated the green superintendent, Mr. M. J. ECpdgins, upon the-excellent'condition of t-h.e greens, both'of" Avhich, in spite of the trying winter, were-a credit to the cltoib and h© hoped they wo;uld provide some interesting' games during the season. The president then invited his mother to throw up the. first 'bowl and the club was Vdiily* declared open.

The attendance of ladies «tp.d.gentlemen was partieulai'ly large ni6st of the valley and Wellington elu'bs. being represented. ' .•■'■■■'." ' A delectable aftea-noon tea was served in the pavilion, the tables being daintily decorated in the club's colours witih. red and blue, anemones and eamelias. ■ Mr. W. Nash," M.P., and Mrs ISTash visited the grounds during the afternoon. The spirited music of the Ivit Elat Jazz Band did much to enliven the proceedings. : ■
