ELECTRIC POWER BOARD

A meeting of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board was held on' Thursday. There were present, Mr E. Winddey (chairman), and Messrs J. W. McEwan, W. H. P. Barber, A. Walker, L. Stewart, A. W. Press, A. Anderson, A. J. Hobbs, and A. J. McCurdy. A letter, from the Moera Community Sports and Ratepayers'"League, expressing thanks to the Board for installing collecting depots, which are a great benefit to residents, was received. Mr McCurdy moved' that Mr H. W. Lawrence who is at present in England, be granted leave■of absence and that a letter1 be sent to him congratulating him on being re-elected unopposed as the Johnsonviile representative on the Board. Mr Windley seconded. Carried. Mr J.W.MeEwan, the first chairman, presented to the Board a framed photograph of himself. Mr A. J. Hobbs, also aii ex-chaiinian, had previously pre-sented-his photograph which'is hung in the board rooib.. Other ex-chairmen who have not" get given their photographs are Messrs W. H. P. Barber, A. J. CONSUMERS' ACCOUNTS A further 1400 consumers have been tyansferred from the old ledgers to the machine system and the balance are now being prepare 3 for transfer, stated the Engineer General Manager (Mr JB. F. Hollands). The new analysis machine was delivered on the 9th. instant,' and we expect to make better progress when our operator becomes proficient Tyith the ma#ehine. This machine will, help to speed, up the returns.;; The Engineer-General Manager (Mr E. F. Hollands) reported that the ten thousandth consumer was reached on, August 9th, and to mark the occasion the board's offices were illuminated with various coloured! lights. Mr Hollands stated that the illuminations cost the board under 30/-. In his report the Engineer-General Manager (MriS. F. During the period re-inspection work has progressed in Eastbourne, Day's Bay, Mahena Bay and York Bay, these districts being nearly completed with the

exception of a few absentee owners, and installations in JLovvry Bay are now being inspected. The number of installations dealt with for the period is fifty, forty of which have had defects to be remedied, and 35 notices are in the hands of contractors. The total number of installations re-inspected to date is 360. Fifty-one tests were carried out on new installations ana 47 inspections of additions to existing installations.

Load; statistics for the month ended August 31st., with the totals to date shown in parentheses, are as follows:—Number of consumers 65 (9974), ranges 15 (1242), water heaters 17 (1055).

The maximum demand for the month, 5432 k.w., was reached at 6* p.m. on. Tuesday, August 19th.

The Test Room report showed that 163 meters were tested during the period; .167 meters were issued to inspectors and. service men for installation; consumers' readings, disconnections, fuses, etc for period amounted to 282. Testing of water heaters in Lower Hutt has -been proceeded! with and there are now 219 to complete in Lower Hutt. Recording voltmeters have been in constant use for the period as wen as recording power, factor meter. Power factor charts have been taken on General Motors and Metters Ltd's panels at Wakefield Street
