Admission that lie hadi stolen £5/5/----f rpm tlie JM^e of a woman/whoihad befriended him while he Was out of work, was made by Walter Augustus Prime, labourer, aged 27, in the WeHington Poice Court on Tuesday. Before leaving to take up » position in the country, he went into one of the bedrooms and took £3/5/- from a handbag. From another Toom he stole £2. Some weeks.later he wrote to the people explaining what he had done, and returning £1. Mr T. Pi Mills, probation officer, said accused, had pleaded guilty to a mean theft. He had been a little wild in Ms youth, but was deserving of a chance. Asked if he had anything to say, ae-, cused said he came down from the country and reported); to the police when he found a charge was being made against him. ' He was ordered to make restitution of the balance of the money stolen. He was allowed a fortnight in which to pay the fine, default being fixed at one month ?s imprisonment. .
