WOMEN INSTITUTE NEWS.

The home of a family is but am item ■ —nevertheless an important one— -im the great Home of a Nation—its Comtry. She Avho builds- her'-home woll and truly, also builda her country -3 greatness. Women are more and more realizing the necessity for a broader outlook and greater ©o-operation, ao that, as bricks are joined to make a house, the homes are joined to make the country firmly established. No women 'x movement realises this fact more tkan

Women's Institutes, hence their motto "For Home and Country." Recent programmes ... particularly exemjjiify this, for at Inglewood a demonstration. S of pottery making was given i» tne^

same programme as a potato peeling competition; and at Paraparamxt a talk on Pacific Relations. was coupled with a demonstration of higth pressure «ooking—all being equally appreciated and enjoyed. .

Stokes Valley Women's Institute -turned out in full force to a special meeting called to hear Miss Stops (special organiser), talk on Arts and Crafts

and to see the ■wonderful examples sh« had brought with her. Miss Stops gave some .valuable hints on running an Institute and strongly emphasised th« corner stones of the W.I, Movement, viz., Service, Co-operation and' Citiaenship—as forming "Friendships" wkieh. may in time do away with the need for "Warships." i{sb.e designated her exhibits as Links of Friendship, for each had; been given by Institute members at Home.for the benefit of those i* N"ew Zealand. Amongst the exhibits were some wonderful needlework, pictures, gloves, soft toys, etc. and als« a number of "thrift" articles, notably a candlestick made from cotton reefe and slippers from old felt hats all done by Institui>e members. The time pawed air too quickly for those present. The President (Mrs Hawthorn), voiced the thanks of all- and-pTesented Misk Stops with a posy of violets'and wattle arranged by Miss D. Hawthorn.

At tSxe, ordinary monthly meeting held on September 4th, Stokes Valley Women's Institute had ./a further pleasure in being addressed by two members, Mesdames Elliott and Dairwa, Dominion President and Secretary of the League of Mothers, on the Work and objects of that movement.

Mrs. Elliott particularly laid stress on the importance of home training and influence in the lives of out young people and counselled the encouragement of self control. Her talk was exceedingly helful, especially to those whose families are growing up, and was much appreciated by-all present.

Mrs. Daiwson followed with details of the formation of the League and of. its organisation.

. Ater tea and discussion, it was decided to form a League of Mot&er«' Circle within Stokes Valley Women's Institute with Mrs. Hnse as eonv«nec.
