W.C.T.U.

-The monthly meeting of the W.C.T.U which was held on Wednesday, August 2.7 th, in the Church of Christ, was of a social nature, for it was the "Birthday Effort" the proceeds of which swell the Headquarters Fund. . There was' a good r attendance of memlbers and friends, and after the devotio-nal exercises, Mrs Aldersley and Mrs. Spencer sang and Mts Tait and JVxrs Loptidell recited. There were alsol competitions Mrs Lopdell and Mrs Green 'being j the prize winners. During the afternoon, a birthday. cake niade by Mrs. | Aldersley was' cut and handed round by Mrs. Ballantyne, late president of | the Union. Mrs Schneider also pTeI sented a cake which was sold in thie meeting. The delegates were appointed for the convention, which takes ' place at Brooklyn and were Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. Spencer. An invitation was I received from the "Youth Movement i Against Alcohol secretary, to attend a lecture and tea, w-hieh takes place in St. Stephen's Bible Class Room. Arrangements were also made for the big effort which takes place in Wellington in September. The sum of £8 was realised as a result of the afternoon. • ■ ■ "Did you suffer much from the floods, Mt.
