HOROWHENUA A. & P. ASSOCIATION

GENERAL COMMITTEE MEETING The meeting of the general committee of the Horowhenua A. and P. Association was held at the secretary’s office recently. There were present: —Mr. A. M, Colquhoun (chairman), Messrs H. J. Lancaster, I. D. Parsons, C. Amos, Rex Mexted, G. Knight, A. R. Bryant, S. B. Mexted, A. Shaw, R. A. MacDonald, J. Morgan Jr., J. A. Kilsby, C. Adkin, J. W. Gimblett, G. D. Harris, L. Bismark, R. W. Evans, A. S. MacFarlane, Bruce Stewart, R. L. Robinson, K. Kirkcaldie, J. Blenkhorn, W. Mason. Apologies for absence were received from: —Messrs N. J. Newell, H. J. Richards, S. W. Barber, S. A. Broadbelt and J. H. Staples. New Members. The following new members of the association were elected: —Messrs C. E. Peek, C. M. Bradley, R. R. Knight, E. W. Chittick and J. Souter (Levin). Show Schedule, The following matters were dealt with in respect of the show schedule: — Home industries: Mr. E. W. Evans reported on the home industries section of the schedule, the revision of which had been practically completed and was now in the hands of the secretary.

Horses.—After a fairly lengthy discussion it was resolved not to alter the amendments recommended by the horse committee and adopted at a previous meeting of the committee. Cattle. —In reference to the matter of including classes for Aberdeen Angus cattle in the next show schedule, which was referred back to the cattle committee for consideration, Mr. I. D. Parsons, convener, reported that his committee did not favour the inclusion of these classes and further recommended that the classes for Red Polls be deleted from the schedule. This was accordingly agreed to by the meeting. Sheep.—The only further alteration was to amend the pet lamb class for Romneys to read: ‘‘Best Pet Lamb (Longwool).” * Donations. The secretary reported that the following donations had recently come to hand: — Home industries section: Davis Gelatine (N.Z.), Ltd., Christchurch, £1 Is; Cadbury, Fry, Hudson, Ltd., Dunedin, 6 lbs Bournville cocoa; Shreddo, Ltd., Auckland, 15s; Mrs. A. Crowe, Weraroa, 10s; Miss G. Kilsby, Levin, trophy as a points prize in girls’ eooikery classes. Horses: Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, Ohau, £3 3s prize money in class for station hack. Sheep; J. H, Staples, Manakau, £3 3s, special prizes in fat lamb classes. Various; —Levin Dairy Co., Ltd., £5 5s prize money in special class for dairy cows; Mr. B. R. Robinson, Manakau, £1 to prize funds; local Ayrshire breeders’ trophy valued £2 2s for best yearling Ayrshire heifer at 1940 show. A vote of thanks was accorded the donors of these varoius prizes. General. Mr. Harris drew attention to the fact that about 20 sheets of iron and a quantity of timber had been stolen from the showgrounds. It was decided to put the matter in the hands of the police. Mr. J. A. Kilsby suggested that the dog trial be held on the first day of the show providing the Highland dancing could be arranged for the second day. The secretary was instructed to write to the Wellington Centre, Piping and Dancing Association, and ascertain if this would clash with any other fixture. The Royal Agricultural Society wrote in reference to A. and P. Associations offering their facilities to the Government during the war. It was decided that a copy of this letter be sent to the finance committee, with a covering le'ttbr stating that this committee would fall in with the Racing Club in any offer the latter may make to the Government in this connection.
