THE MIX-UP OVER DICK.
NEW ZEALAND UNION EXPLAINS ITS POSITION (By Telegraph—-press Association*. WELLINGTON, Last Night. ''lf J. Dick was not advised that ho would not be allowed to accompany the New Zealand%eam to Australia owing to Ms having contracted an attack of measles, it was the fault of the Auckland Bugby Union and not of this committee," said Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Rugby Union at a meeting of the executive to-night. "Dick's exclusion from the New Zealand team was -decided upon by this committee after consulting its medical advisers and upon the advice of one of the managers of the team who is a doctor.
'' So far as the accommodation for the All Blacks in Wellington was concerned," the chairman proceeded, "accommodation was booked on .Tune 23, a day after the tour was arranged and the unions concerned were notified to this . effect on that day. When the team assembled at Wellington the proprietor of the hotel pointed out it would be impossible on that day to book single rooms, but accommodation was available for the whole of the team, though two or three members might have to share rooms and some might have to put up with shako-downs in the lounge. "On account of the rough weather a suggestion was made that the team might care to spend the night on the steamer, but had the team preferred, accommodation was available for them at the hotel. There was nothing wrong with the arrangements which were mada by the New Zealand Union, and in fairness to the hotelkeeper the position should be explained. The team had all their meals at tlio hotel and a special \lounge was provided for their convenience. What more could one expect?" A statement was received from the Wellington Rugby Union showing that the gross takings at tjhe North Island v. South Island match at Wellington on June 11 were £983 6s 3d and the net receipts £BBS 10s 3d, the balance to the New Zealand Union being £557 12s lid.
