After a week's idleness the Australians frisked gaily on' to the sunny Edgbaston field for the match against Warwickshire. There was some sur prise when Bradmau \>>on the toss from Cranmer and sent in Warwickshire, for there had been little rain ana the wicket had been covered and played slowly.

The teams were:— Warwickshire: Cranmer, Croom, Thompson, Santall, Dollery, Old, Buckiiiham, Paine, Wilmot, Mayer, Hollies. Australia: Fingieton, Brown, Bradman, McCabe, Chipperlield, McConnick, Ward, Waite, O'Reilly, Wallcer. The twelfth man is Fleetwood-Smith.

Dollery and Ord scored brightly and raised 100 in 125 .minutes. Ward was belatedly called on at 137 and immediately had the bntsmen in trouble. Ord was out after a fine innings, which included even boundaries. The "tail-enders" were quickly dismissed, and the innings ended after 200 minutes.

Bradman and Brown, apparently wanting practise, batted quietly ami4. ironical applause, and the cry, "This isn't a test match!" was heard when Brown, after I'os minutes, reached 28. After 5.30, however, the batsmen opened out and Bradman readied his century in 135 minutes.
