ITALIAN AIRMEN’S SHARE IN SPAIN.
195 ’PLANES ENGAGED (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) Received Wednesday, 1 a.m. LONDON, July 12. The Times’ Rome correspondent, emphasising the importance of the Italian airmen’s share in the Spanish operations, says the newspaper Stampa’s Saragossa correspondent, evidently quoting from official records, states that in April, May and June, Italians performed 7565 flights in 14,174 hours, dropped 1390 tons of explosives and fixed 180,000 machine-gun roundls. Details are given of the Republican losses, but no mention is made of the Italian casualties, nor is there any reference to the bombing of ships.
The Times points out that the number of aeroplanes engaged, which reached 195 on May 10, shows that an appreciable section of the Italian .air Force was engaged in Spain as the Italian theoretical first-line strength was tsos at the end of last year.
