Picking up in his own twenty-five, W . Brimble sent to Tittleton, to Chase and back to W. Brimble again. Then the ball went irom Brimble to Anderson and to Tittleton and on for McLeod to score and Hemi to goal. It was football at its best.

Newcastle looked like pulling the game out of the fire in the seebnd half and they scored eleven points to New Zealand’s eight, but they were individual efforts.

Perry, the half-back, played almost a lone hand for Newcastle in attack and his try from half-way, beating seven men, was brilliant and the New Zealanders joined in the applause. Time and time again the New Zealanders bombarded Newcastle territory, always with several players in support, only to be thrown back by the dour Newcastle defenders. Right :o the end they threw themselves at the flying feet of the New Zealanders and it was a tired thirteen that trooped olf the field at the end of the game.
