AUSTRIAN DEBT.
GERMANY MAY ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY.
IN RETURN FOR OTHER CONCESSIONS

The Daily Telegraph understands that the Anglo-German discussions will shortly result in a German agreement to accept responsibility for the Austrian debt conditional on a fresh basis for trade between Britain, Germany and the Empire countries, and a rearrangement of interest rates on the Dawes and Young loans. Britain pointed out that the Dawes and Young loans were a matter for the bondholders to whom the German proposals are being submitted.

The sub-committees of British and German experts which are examining the Austrian debt continued their meetings to-day, and further meetings will be held to-morrow.
In the House of Commons the Financial Secretary to tire Treasury, replying to a question, said that on May 18 the Italian member of the, committee of the guarantor States for the reconstruction of the Austrian Loan informed the Committee that the Italian Government had decided to withdraw from the Committee. No reasons for this action had been given.
