OVERTIME RATES WANTED.
WORK ON SATURDAY (By Telegraph —Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Claiming that they were entitled to overtime for work performed last Saturday morning, men engaged at the Challenge phosphate works at Otahuhu stopped work this morning. The incident arose as the result of the Anzac Day holiday, the company taking the attitude that it was entitled to work men on Saturday morning at ordinary rates of pay in order to make up the 40 hours in the week. The men are employed on an hourly wage and were paid for Anzac Day, so that, while Saturday work meant additional pay for them, they demanded it should be at overtime rates.
After some negotiations the men returned to work this afternoon.
