AIR RAID VOLUNTEERS.
RESPONSE OVERWHELMING (British Official Wireless) Received Sunday, 7.5 p RUGBY, March 19. The response to his appeal for 1,000,000 volunteers in connection with air raid precautions had been very good, said the Home Secretary, Sir Samuel Hoare, and the offers of help had been so heavy that the local organisation was unable to cope with them. The Chancellor of the Exchequer had agreed, he said, to allow for income tax purposes the expenditv . of firms on training their staffs in air raid duties and the provision of shelters and equipment.
