NEW CRUISER LAUNCHED.
COST OVER A MILLION. (By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright) (British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 7.30 p.m. RUGBY, Sept. 2. The new cruiser Birmingham, of the Southampton class, was launched at the Devonport dockyard by Lady Chamberlain, wife of Sir Austen Chamberlain, who was also present. The new cruiser, which cost £1,283,115; is scheduled for completion by the autumn of 1937. The slip she occupied will be prepared immediately to receive the keel plate of the Gloucester, a cruiser of the same class, which is to be launched next year.
