CHEESE AWARDS. CHAMPIONSHIP TO TARANAKI. ' The awards in the cheese section of the National Hairy Show which opens in Palmerston North to-day, have been released, and reveal that the Now Zeai land championship has been won by j Pembroke Hairy Company (Taranaki), while the Manawatu and West Coast championship has been secured by Rapanui Hairy Company situated a title north of Wanganui. JUDGES’ COMMENTS “There was a slight decrease in the number of exhibits staged for judging as compared with last year, due no doubt to the difficult conditions experienced by cheesemakers throughout the season,” state the judges. “The quality generally was well up to the standard of previous shows, the winning exhibits being exceptionally good. Although most cheese was free from mechanical openness, some showed evidence of siitty texture. The flavour, with exceptions, was satisfactory. The body in some of the entries, however, was on the firm side. “Comment has previously been made concerning the lack of attention given to the finish of exhibits and this defect was again in evidence, a number of entries being penalised on that account.” SPECIAL PRIZES Rennet Co.
