MONA LEYDON'S FINE FEAT

The Australian and New Zealand ladies' swimming records for 440 yards freestyle were broken by Miss Mona Leydon at the Auckland Swimming iCentrc's championship carnival. Her time was smin 46 2-ssecs.. lowering her own record by one second and Miss Edna Davey's Australian figures by 3 4-5 sees.

DISTANCE RUNNER LOWERS TWO-MILE RECORD.

CHEISTCHURCII, Last Night. The well-known distance athlete, CII. Matthews, broke the New Zealand two-mile record at Lancaster Park this evening. His time was 9min 17 3-ssecs., two-fifths of a second better than the record he himself established at Napier in December. On .Saturdayhe will make an attempt on the threemile record held by J. W. Savidan, of Auckland.

G. E. Giles, sprint cycling champion, riding at English Park, won the quarter-mile in 30 l-'ssec. The time is believed to be the best yet recorded on a banked track in New Zealand. Application will be made for recognition of this time as a national record-
