Monday,

The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, was among the visitors to Manakau on Sunday.

The Rev. J. R. Blanchard, who has been spending a holiday in Otaki, has returned to Wellington.

Mr. Frank Shaw, of Otaki Railway, is among the patients at the Palmerston North Hospital.

Mrs. Jackson and her small son, Alan, who have been on holiday in Wellington, returned to Otaki on Friday night.

The death occurred on Friday at Palmerston North of Mr. Andrew Simpson, aged 88 years, father to Mrs. R. Boyd, of Shannon, late of Otaki.

Mr. Lcs. M. Murphy, who has been spending a few days holiday in Otaki, and staying at the Family Hotel, returns to Wellington to-morrow.

Further very fine Maori carvings arrived in Otaki on Friday for erection at Raukawa. These will be placed on the outside of the building.

The total rainfall in Otaki for January was 4.0.1 inches. There were twelve days of rain, the heaviest fall (I.2Bir_) being on the 18th.

Mrs. Bowman, who has been on a holiday in Auckland, has returned to Otaki. Miss Donaldson, her sister, is af. present visiting Otaki, together with Miss Edna Whittaker, of Auckland.

Colonel Cross, consulting surgeon in the Indian Army, and who has been staying at Hotel Jubilee, has left for Taupo on holiday. Colonel Cross, many years ago, was a resident of Otaki.

While Mr. Ivan Mathie was doing some carpentering work on Friday the chisel he was using slipped, with the result that a wound necessitating five stitches was inflicted.

Among recent gifts to the Children's Health Camp at Otaki was a quantitv of potatoes, the gift of Mr. J. Procter, of Levin. The gift was one fully appreciated.

White sparrows are rare hut one was caught and killed by a cat at Te Horo on Saturday. The bird was pure white and appeared to be regarded Inother sparrows as one of importance.

Miss Ruby Hakaraia, who has been in indifferent health for some time, recently underwent an operation at the Palmers ton North hospital. Miss Hakaraia is reported to be making good progress.

The euchre and card party held at the Railway theatre on Saturday night was enjoyable, there being a good number present. Music was supplied by Miss I'tiku's orchestra. Card games resulted:—Mr. \V. Mai hie and Mrs. A. Fursc (firsts) and Mr. G. Douglas and Mrs. Mathie (seconds).

Gifts from the following are gratefully acknowledged by the Palmerston North Hospital Board for the Otald hospital:—Mrs. Mather (fruit), Mrs. Knox (fruit), Mrs. Black (fruit), Mrs. Poutama (vegetables), Mrs.-W. Wilson (lamb and baby clothes).

There was a deal of jubilation at th& Otaki Sanatorium on Friday night, which was shown later at the railway station, when one of the patients left for her home at Auckland. There was a deal of cheering, and the singing "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" proved her popularity.

The Rev. and Mrs. Lambert, who have, been residents of Paraparaumu for some time, wore farewelled at a social in the Parish Hall on Wednesday night .when the former was presenter) with a pipe, and the latter with a wellfilled purse. Mr. G. A. Monk, in making the presentation, referred in highest terms to the Rev. and Mrs. Lambert, and the former in reply stated how he had enjoyed his stay at Paraparaumu and how both he and Mrs. Lambor?. would miss nianv kind friends. The Rev. and Mrs. Lambert will take up residence in Wnngamii.
