RECORD POLLING.

FOR SEAT. RESULTS RECEIVED BY LARGE CROWD. Particularly heavy polling was carried cut throughout the Manawatu electorate yesterday, in keeping with the particular interest aroused by the ■electoral contest, and the figures returned constitute a record. The number of votes recorded throughout the electorate and at the Levin booth were: — 1935 1931 1928 Manawatu *. 8041 6718 7139 Levin Booth 1558 1291 1324 These figures, it will be seen, show, ‘in the case of the entire electorate, .an increase of 1323 over those of the 1931 .poll, and over tho6e for 1988, the highest previously, the increase is 902. The total number of electors on the roll is 9334. In Levin the number of votes recorded show an increase of 267 over those of 1931, and of 234 ever those of 1928.

The four local booths were established as usual in the Levin District High School, where arrangements were moist excellently carried out for the convenience of electors exercising,their privilege of the franchise. The booths were under the control of Messrs E. J. Toss, E. D. Wallace, H. J. Jones and J. Gasey, and with the 'work of counting the votes commencing at 7 p.m,, Mr Foss was able to tele-phone-the first result to the “Chronicle” office at 7.25, and the final return at 8 o'clock. It is, noteworthy in this; connection that the Levin returns were the first to be received by the Returning Officer for Manawatu .at the Foxton headquarters.
