TO CURB FRENCH FASCISTS.

CABINET TO PUT MEASURES BEFORE PARLIAMENT.

FATE OF THE FRANC IN THE BALANCE,

Received Wednesday, 7 p.m. PARIS, Nov. 2G,

Cabinet has approved measures pro' suraably inspired by the activities of the Fascist League and will submit them to Parliament. They include the prohibition of organisations which provoke armed demonstrations in the streets and indulge in illicit military exercises. They would empower mayors and prefects to ban public meetings likely to endanger public order, and to enforce stricter control of firearms. The Socialists and Communists declare they will vote against M. Laval on Thursday. They number only 40, of the total of 012 Deputies. The Radicals, after hearing M. Hcrriot’s account to Cabinet, agreed to postpone a decision until after M. Laval’s statement.

The Fiery Cross organisation has ordered the mobilisation of its forces here on Thursday, but there is no indication that the Government has ordered any movement of troops beyond the extra companies of Mobile Guards which are always on duty when Parliament assembles. “It is the fate of the franc which will be decided on Thursday,” declared M, Laval in a broadcast indicating that, when the Chamber meets, the Government will seek an endorsement of its Budgetary measures before permitting the threatened attacks arising from Fascist activities. The Government had rejected devaluation which would be all the more dangerous if it occurred on the eve of a general election.

Alluding to the Fascist League’s Limoges incident, M. Laval said the Government undertook to safeguard Republican institutions and will extend the existing regulations if those are inadequate.
