WERAROA CLUBS COURTS OPENED. Though the weather was not particularly bright yesterday afternoon, it did not deter a, large number of tennis enthusiasts from the different clubs m Levin from assembling at the Weraroa Club's courts for the iirst opening day in this district. Play started early in the afternoon and some very enjoyable games resulted. At an interval the President, Mr. H. G. Mackay, apologised for the unavoidable absence of the Club's Patron, Rev. J. €. Davies, and presented the cups for handicap singles play which were won last <# year by Mrs. Mackay and Mr. C. Curtis. In calling upon Mrs. Mackay to drive the lirst ball, the speaker stated that not on ce since its inception had the club found it necessarv to postpone its opening on account of inclement weather. He extended ti welcome to all visitors and expressed the hope that they would spend an enjoyable day. A dainty afternoon tea was dispensed by the ladies after which play was resumed and continued until a late hour.

OTAKI TENNIS CLUB ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Otulu Tennis Club was held on Friday night last, Mr. W. M. Simcox presiding over a fair attendance of members. The election of otlicers for the coining season resulted as follows: -President : Mr. W. M. Simcox; Vice-Presi-dents: Messrs T. O'Rourke, X. S. Lawrence, H. B. Edhouxe, D. Richards, L. (}. Lowry. and J. McGill; Club Captain. Mr. T. N. Bengc; hon. secretary. Mr. A. Harper; hon. treasurer, Mr. E. B. Anderson; committee: Mrs. Benge, Misses B. Capcwcll and M. Harper, and Messrs B. Ryder and J. Morgan. The question of repairs to the courts was discussed and it was decided that these be undertaken as soon as possible. It was also decided to hold a ball in the Railway Hall on October 9th. An enthusiastic meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair and to Mr. Richards for the use of a room.
