Mussolini Gives Way Under League Pressure.

Notable Success of Eden's Diplomacy.

Italian Troops Still Going to Africa.

GENEVA, May 24. Italy has accepted as a compromise terms embodying the reaffirmation of the arbitration clause in the 1928 Treaty and fixing a time limit for • the Conciliation Council meeting in August if arbitration fails. V Received Sunday, 9.50 p.m. GENEVA, May 26. The League Council assembled at 1.30 a.m., M. Litvinoff presiding. It adopted a resolution embodying the compromise cabled earlier. The procedure is that the dispute is referred to four Conciliation Commissioners who, if. no settlement is reached by July 25, should choose 50 neutral members and proceed with arbitration. The Council will meet if a settlement is not reached by August 25. Mr. Geze, representing Abyssinia, said they expected Italy during the negotiations to suspend the despatch of forces. Baron Aloisi, for Italy, said if Italy accepted the procedure of conciliation and arbitration it was because she proposed to conform thereto. An earlier message states that July 25 is the time limit for the conciliation procedure and August 25 for arbitration. The Conciliation Committee does not include Abyssinians. Ratification of frontiers will be considered after the incidents are settled.
