World's Youngest Archbishop
WEST AUSTRALIA'S NEW PRELATE (By. Telegraph-Press Assn.--Copyright) Eeceived Sunday, 9.30 p.m. PERTH, May 26. The Most Kev. Doctor Redmond Prendiville, 8.A., is the successor to Dr. Clune, whose death occurred on :Saturday. Dr. Prendiville is 35 years of age and is probably the youngest lloman Catholic archbishop in the -world. The Most Rev. Patrick Joseph Clune, 'Archbishop of Perth, whose death occurred on Saturday, was born in Ireland in 1864, and educated at Dublin. . He was ordained priest in 1886 and was afccular priest of the Goulburn diocese •I'iom 1886 to 1893. After a period as -& missioner in- Ireland he returned to prfLutftralia in 1899, following which he\wa& Superior of Redemptorist Houses ".at Wellington, New Zealand, and Perth. 'JEfo was consecrated Bishop of Perth ;in 1911, and was the first archbishop •on the raising of the See to metropolitan rank in 1913.
