Members of the Poroutinvh.no Women’s Institute all look forward to the second Saturday of each mouth, when they hold their jolly meeting. Last Saturday was the meeting for September, when Mrs Speirs presided oyer an excellent attendance. A new member was given a warm welcome. The ■meeting opened with the “Ode to Friendship,” followed by a short Community Sing.” The roll call for the day, “Where I first met my husband,;” caused much laughter until it was “your turn,” Winners of the monthly competitions were as follows:—Marmalade: Mrs Carl 1, Mrs Sutcliffe %■ Mrs Hartley. 3. Bed socks: Only one entry, Mrs Alyward. Mesdames Sloan and Taylor served a delicious tea after which Mrs Tabor read a one-act play. She also read thp' HB4 winning essay for the Bledieiee prize, which much interested the mepibers. Mesdames Speirs and Tabor were' appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly council meeting to be held in Levin next month. The meeting was closed with the singing of the National Anthem. During August the members of the Institute organised a very successful! social and dance. The proceeds to buy crockery for Institute use.
