Constructional Work On the Waitaki Dam

GOOD PROGRESS MADE OAMARU, Last Night. During the past few months, with the very favourable conditions prevailing, exceptionally good progress has been made with the constructional work on the wall of the Waitaki dam. with the result that the work has reached a stage beyond risk of damage by flood. The long land portion of the wall on the Otago side is practically completed, and the construction of a coffer-dam for de-watering the excavation to the foundations and the building of the wall to above flood height, has now been successfully accomplished.

At a meeting of the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce, members paid a very high tribute to the engineering ability and skill of the engineer-in-charge (Mr R. H. Paekwood), and decided to write him a letter congratulating him on mastering the mighty Waitaki river and; on his achievement in personally supervising and successfully accomplishing a, work of such magnitude.
