Police and Escaped Convicts Fight It Out
THREE LEADERS KILLED Received Friday, 8 p.m. CHICAGO, Dec. 22. In a desperate gun battle tonight the polite killed three of the leaders of a gang of escaped Indiana convicts, who were responsible for many recent crimes here, including the murdering of a policeman. * After locating the criminals* hide-out, Detective-Captain John Stege surrounded the apartment building with 20 heavily-armed men, who at a signal crashed into the building. They were met by a burst of shotgun fire and the lights were immediately extinguished. For over a minute the police continued firing blindly and the criminals returned the fire until they were killed.
