Henry Wiekham Steed, the journalist, writing in the Sunday Times, says: "The German campaign in Austria has gone to such lengths that the Powers can no longer ignore its .possible serious complications. Italy supports the Anglo-French representations, and has already given a similar hint to Berlin. The .purpose of the warning is to call a halt, because it is recognised that the success of the Gerrman Nazi arms in Austria would only be the first part of a plan to fcreate a new empire of all the Germanic peoples in Europe. "Britain has received such conclusive evidence of stealthy German rearmanent and widespread military training in various forms that Nazi Germany's aims seem to be even clearer than Imperial Germany's ainw; in 1914." ' As will be seen in cable news appearing on another page, Britain and .France are officially rebuking Germany for her wireless propaganda and aerial dropping of leaflets in Austria.
