Returned Soldiers in Role of Escorts
SEQUEL TO ASSAULTS AND ROBBERIES. Received Friday, 9.45 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 14. The prevalence of suburban robberies : and assaults on women, has led to the .formation of private patrols composed of unemployed returned soldiers who, for a small fee, protect homes during the absence of householders, and will talso provide escorts for women returning home at night, meeting them at trains or trams.
The demand for these men’s services :is increasing in many suburbs.
