Mr W. J. Polson, M.P., Holds Confidence of Fanners
RESOLUTIONS CARRIED WELLINGTON, Last Night. The annual conference of the Farmers’ Union concluded to-day when Mr. J. Poison was re-elected president. A resolution was passed requesting the Government to make further and careful investigation into the unemployment question with the view of adequate assistance being rendered unemployed women with no financial resources. It was decided to draw the attention of Electric Power Boards to the necessity of reviewing costs with the view of reducing charges for the coming season to the smallest amount possible. A remit favouring a reduction of members of Parliament was defeated. Mr. A. E. Robinson (Auckland) said it was ridiculous to talk of the expense of Parliament considering the million? of pounds of public money which had been squandered in the past. The taiK of reduction in members came from the cities and as usual, the country people swallowed the bait; If they agreed to the remit they would upset the country quota and might find themselves with much less representation in Pailiatnent.
The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr. W. J. Poison (re-elected unopposed); vice-presidents, Messrs W. TV. Mulholland (Canterbury), H. E. Blyde (North Taranaki), E. H. Murray (Otago); treasurer, Mr. W. B. Mathoson (Wellington): advisory committee, Messrs R- H. Feisst (Cambridge), W. TV. Morrison C. C. Jackson (Wairarapa) representing the North Island; -Messrs J. D. Hall (Canterbury), J. D. Revie (Otago) and D. Dickie (Southland) representing the South Island.
