Organising Mountain Sport on National Basis

PLANS FOR 1933 DOMINION SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

WELLINGTON, Last Night,

At a meeting of the Ski Council of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, which has been set up for the purpose of organising the sport on a national basis, the date of commencement of the 1933 New Zeaalnd ski championships, to be held at Mt. Cook, was fixed for Tuesday, August 29. The management committee will have control of the Ball Hut for a period from throe days before the meeting. It was decided that, subject to any alterations necessitated by weather or other conditions, the individual championships be held in the following order:—Downhill, slalom, long-distance jumping. The Ruapehu vSki Club, having offered two of its trophies, the New Zealand championship trophy and the Major Hoad cup, for competition, it is proposed to award the former for the combined downhill and slalom championships under.the title of the New Zealand ski ninning championship, and the latter for the jumping championship. An equipment committee was sot up to make all the necessary arrangements and, in particular, for preparation of the several jumping grounds at the scene of the sports. The Australian National Sid Federation wrote accepting the council's invitation to send an Australian team to the championships but stating that no selection of the personnel could yet be made.

Messrs J. C. Robertson and R. Symo. of the Ruapehu Club, having intimated their intention of attending the Australian rki championships a* 'Kosciusko at- the beginning of August, were appointed to represent New Zealand, and it was decided to invite fur-

ther applications from .suitable to join the team.

Seven clubs were approved for affiliation to the council —the Ruapehu Ski Club, Tararua Tramping Club, Aorangi Ski Club, Christchurch Ski Club, Canterbury Winter Sports Club, Tasman Ski Club and Otago Ski Club. A committee appointed to draw up a scheme for the ski tests reported in favour of adoption of the British ski tests in toto, .and the report and tests, slightly altered to meet New Zealand conditions, were approved and adopted. Messrs. H. Elworthy, J. C. Robertson and G. W. A. Day were reappointed a technical committee to administer the scheme.
