Cyclonic Storm on New South Wales Coast
MUCH-NEEDED RAIN FALLING INLAND. Received Friday, 8.5 p.m. SYDNEY, May 19. The New South Wales coast is being lashed by a tropical cyclonic storm, with driving rain and high sexfb and gales, and shipping has been delayed. Much-needed rain has fallen or is falling inland, whore it is most required in Victoria, bringing relief to wheatgrowers and pastoralists. Torrential Downpour in Sydney NUMEROUS STREET MISHAPS. Received Saturday, 12.32 a.m. SYDNEY, May 19. Reports from all parts of the city and suburbs disclose that heavy damage was done by this evening’s deluge, when two inches of rain fell in an hour and 3| inches in two hours. The rain is still pelting down, causing flooding in all the low-lying areas. Damage estimated at £2OOO was caused at a Waterloo factory, where the stock was drenched by water four feet deep. Anzac parade, Randwick and most of the racecourses and football grounds are under water. There were numerous street mishaps, motor-cars getting out of action. A workman was mangled hy a tram on the harbour bridge owing to the bad visibility and three persons were knocked down hy trams for the same reason.
