Unemployment Numbers on The Decline at Home
OUTLOOK REGARDED AS ENCOURAGING
British Official Wireless. Received Friday, 7 p.m. RUGBY, May 18
The Minister of Labour (Sir Henry Betterton) informed the House of •Commons that there wore 91,000 more in employment than a month ago and 92,000 more than a year ago. Compared with January, the numbers in employment showed an increase of 249,000. That meant, said the Minister, that in the year under review, when the trade of the whole world had been paralysed by exchange restrictions, and when there had been political disturbances and a monetary crisis in every country, the position in Britain was not only incomparably stronger than a year ago, but he thought the outlook was more cncouraging than for a very long time.
