Sir Francis Beil’s Present Term Ends To-day
THIRTEEN ’ RETIREMENTS IN LAST TWO YEARS WELLINGTON, Last Night. Twenty-one years’ continuous service as a member of the Legislative Council will be completed by Sir Francis Bell to-morrow when his present seven-year term of appointment ends. Several other Legislative Councillors are due to retire in the near future. The terms of Hon. C. J. Carrington and Hon. J. A. Hanan will expire on June 17, while Sir James Allen will complete his term oh June 1 next year Later that month Sir Edwin Mitchelson, Colonel G. J. Smith and Hon. Robert Scott will complete their seven years. The present Council has a membership of 22. Retirements have taken a heavy toll in the strength of the Chamber during the past few there having been 35 members when. the Coalition Government assumed office in 1531. '
