Dangerous Flying Charges Dismissed

SEQUEL TO LANDINGS ON PAKAPAKAUMU BEACH. WELLINGTON, May 19. Charges of dangerous flying, brought by the police against two Wairarapa pilots, James Cane and, Alan Jury, in consequence of landings made on Paraparaumu Beach at the New Year were dismissed by Mr. E. Page, S.M., to-day, Mr. Page remarked that though com.plaints had apparently been made to the police, no witnesses, with the exception of a constable, h&d been called. The constable saw only one landing and that particular landing had not been shown to have caused unnecessary danger to people on the beach. It had been stated that one of the defendants was on the beach at the time of the landing, keeping the crowd back. The constable, in evidence, said that

iu consequence of certain complaints received he went to the beach on the afternoon of January 2 and ordered the machines ’off the .beach iu virtue of the County Council's by-law prohibiting the use of vehicles on the beach without the consent of the council. The defending counsel expressed the opinion that it would have been more advisable for the police to have charged the defendants with a breach of the bylaw rather than with dangerous ingOne of the defendants stated in evidence that when their case had been dealt with by the air authorities it was considered that they had been sufficiently punished by having their licenses suspended for a month.
