SELFISH POLITICIANS AND WAR LORDS Received Thursday, 9.50 p.m. SHANGHAI, May IS. General Huangfu’s visit to Peking is regarded in foreign circles as of the utmost importance. It is believed to be the forerunner of peace overtures. China realises that the war is giving disgruntled politicians and war lords an opportunity to use Japanese influence for personal gains, possibly resulting in the establishment of a new State independent of Nanking. These circumstances have led to unofficial yet influential Chinese and Japanese citizens to exchange opinions and recommend their respective Government to negotiate a truce.
