Phelps (England) re(tained the world’s professional sculling championship, defeating Major Goodsell (Australia) by a length and taking 17min, 6.2 sec. for the 4000 metres course. Phelps came from behind in the last 200 metres, after being four lengths behind at the turn. It was the first time in /the history of the event that it was crowed around a turn.
