WELCOME SOCIAL AT OTAKI.

TO REV. AND MRS. RAMSON. A very pleasant evening' was spent i:i All Saints’ .Parish Hall on Wednesday evening last, the occasion' being the welcoming of the Rev. and Mrs. Ramson, the new Vicar and his wife, by the parishioners of Otaki. It was a representative gathering- with Mr. Critchley, Peoples’ Warden, making a very able chairman. Games were played and enjoyed' bv ail, while items by Miss (I. wins (pianoforte), Misses - tiller and .J. Bailey (vocal) to which tV S V, Wills (h iaiK o and Mr. P. Tahiwi ( cello) played the accompaniments, were greatly appreciated. A dainty supper attended to by members of the Radios Guild was thoroughly enjoyed. - i. Giitchley, in a few well chosen words, wekomed the Rev. Ramson and Jus wife as our now Vicar, and then called on the Mayor (Mr. C. F. Atmore) who, on behalf ot the residents of Otaki extended to the Rev. ami Mrs. Ramson a cordial welcome, and hoped that they would accept what Otaki hud to offer. He stated that there were quite a number of very interesting spots in ana around the district and referred to the health camp and the very good scheme which “The (smith Family, ” 0 f Wellington, had adopted. Mr. Atmore added that apart from church and social works, Otaki had an abundance of outdoor sports, which he would like the Rev. gentleman to take an interest in. Expressions of welcome were voiced by Mr. Rule (Railway Church), Mr. Little (Vicar’s Warden), Mr. F. S. Simcox (Secretary of Vestry), Miss Lee (Maori Mission), Mrs. Swaboy and Air. P. Tahiwi (Maori College). The Rev. Ramson, on behalf of Mrs. Ramson and himself, thanked all present for the very cordial welcome that had been accorded them. He said that it was quite true that he had been Principal of the Hikurangi College for a considerable time, which being during the war period, had been very trying, ho had also had a fairly strenuous 91 years as Vicar of Petone, and when he was offered the position of Vicar of Otaki, that he had accepted same. He was sure that both Airs. Ramson and himself would like Otaki very much. He congratulated his parishioners on the beautiful church and buildings which they had. He would be only too pleased to do what he could for the health camp. The Rev. gentleman then intimated that on Tuesday next fat 7.30 p.m. His Lordship the Bishop would perform the Induction ceremony in the church, and hoped that as many parishioners as possible would be present. The Rev. Ramson then suggested altering the time of the 9 a.m. services at Otaki, and it was decided, on a show of hands, that in future the morning services would be at 9.30 a.m., and that the Sunday School would commence at 10.30 a.m. In conclusion the Rev. gentleman hoped that his congregation would do their best to keep the church filled, and thereby assist him to give of his best. Air. Critchley, in concluding remarks hoped that Otaki’s climate would suit both the Rev. and Mrs. Ramson’s health, and that they would both benefit by it. Miss Kenworthy, Airs. Evans, Jnr., Air. P. Garrity, and Mr. G. A. Evans, proved to be successful in competitions, and were the recipients of the prizes for same. A vote of thanks to the ladies who attended to the supper arrangements, and to the givers of items was carried by acclamation. A very enjoyable evening was terminated by the singing of the National Anthem.
