OTAKI GIRL GUIDES.

ANNUAL MEETING. The Second Otaki Girl Guide Company held their annual meeting on Monday, October 6th, in the Lyric theatre. Miss Kebbell, District Commissioner, was in the chair. The annual, report and balance sheet were read and adopted. Mrs. Hawk's resignation was read and the secretary was instructed to write and thank Mrs. Hawk for her valuable services in the interest of the Otaki Guides. A resignation was also received from Mrs. Martin Simeox which was accepted with regret. . Miss Barbara' Swabey* who has acted as Captain to the 2nd Company since Miss Jewell's departure, read her report. Mrs. Cockrell was again proposed as President, but she expressed a wish that the work might be undertaken by someone else. It was regretted that Mrs. Cockrell wished to give up her position as President and a very hearty vote of thanks was accorded her for her past services. The following officers were then elected:— President, Mrs. Milne; Vice-Presidents, Mrs. Cockrell, and Dr. Atmore; hon, secretary, Mrs. Saveli; . members of committee, Mrs. Capewell, Mrs. Gillespie, Mrs. Nicolson. It was proposed that Dr. Atmore be asked to be the delegate for the district for the ensuing year. It was announced that Miss Kenworthy had very kindly offered to take on the position as Captain of the company temporarily. It was considered that the company was very fortunate in securing the services of Miss Kenworthy and that under her leadership the company would undoubtedly flourish. Captain’s Report. “Report of 2nd Company for year ending September, 1931.—At the beginning of the year we had nine Guides and one Post Guide. Miss Jewell, the Captain, left the district just before Easter, but we have been carrying on just the same. During the winter months we have had an average attendance of seven Guides. Two Church parades have been held at the Anglican and Methodist Churches.' Nine proficiency badges have been gained and Miss Kenworthy enrolled two recruits. Besides badge work, the Guides' have learnt dancing and games.—B. V. SWABEY, Lieutenant." Annual Report. “The following is a brief report of the work during the past year: We regret having lost the seryices of our secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Hawk, | who has left the district. Mrs. Hawk has held office since the formation of the company and we wish to express our gratitude to her for the very efficient manner in which she carried out her duties. The company has also been unfortunate in the removal from the district of their captain, Miss Jewell. Miss Jewell was a keen Guider and the company made steady progress under her leadership. The committee were pleased to make her a small presentation in recognition of her interest in the girls. Since Miss Jewell's departure Miss Barbara Swabey has kindly carried on the work. During the year, the flag presented to the company by Mrs. Hanson was dedicated in the Methodist .Church, a good muster of Guides and members of the committee being present at the service.—W. COCKRELL, President.''
