FIRE BRIGADES MEET.

! LEVIN PARTY VISITS" OTAKI. A very enjoyable evening was spent at the Otaki fire station on Monday night when a number of members of the Levin brigade and lady friends attended for the purpose of indulging in a card evening. ‘ Many interesting games were played, Levin eventually winning, 41 to 39. An appetising supper was served during the evening and enjoyed, members of the local brigade being very attentive. Prior to the commencement of the evening’s amusement Superintendent Cockrell extended a warm welcome to he visitors and hoped all would have a pleasant time. Deputy-Superintendent Johnston returned thanks and "also thanked the local brigade for filling up gaps in their ranks. As Levin had won he presumed the Otaki substitutes had played honestly. (Laughter). He then called on Foreman Johnston, who stated that all had been delighted with the pleasant evening, having enjoyed themselves very much. Naturally, his side was pleased with their win. Deputy-Superintendent Johnston then extended an invitation for members of the Otaki brigade and lady friends to visit Levin when he hoped that they would secure a win. Foreman Twist apologised for Superintendent Cockrell being unable to stay throughout. He stated that Otaki was pleased to have members of the Levin brigade present and assured them that Otaki would be only too pleased to pay a return visit. On account of another euchre party the attendance had not been large but he was pleased all had had a pleasant time. Cheers were then exchanged, while Deputy-Superintendent Mathie led off in “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows,’’
